Depending on where we are in our lives, we may have a choice
and then there may be times when we feel like we don't have
a choice. We have to do what we can to survive in this world
even if it means doing something that we don't feel like doing.
There is 24 hours in a day. We spend some of that time sleeping,
other activities and, of course, WORKING! Whether you like it or
not, if you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you
will at some point in your life, need to work to have the things
that you need. For some people, their job is the last place they
want to be.
Some jobs can be a challenge on you emotionally, physically, or
both. When the alarm goes off in the morning you hit the snooze
button. When you finally wake up, you lay awake in bed. You feel
like you need a new job, or that you just need a break. What's
worse is working so hard only to have your pay ate up by bills.
It's really hard not to let how you feel about your job show
when you are at work when you would like to be at home instead.
Looking at the clock over and over again just makes your day go
by even slower. You mumble under your breath about what or who
you don't like on your job. Some even go so far as to complain
about their job in front of customers.
If we were to lose our jobs without another one lined up as a
back up, then we would really have something to complain about.
Actually in Colossians 3:22,23 God is telling us to work on our
jobs as if we are working for Him and not just when someone is
watching. That also includes our attitudes while we are at work.
Even though the economy isn't so great, God is. Nothing can keep
God from providing you with what you need. If you want God to help
you get a better job, then be specific. Don't just ask for a better
job. If you just ask for a better job, you may end up with a different
job with the same duties that you don't like. If you don't like
answering phones on your job, then tell God you want a job that does
not require you to answer phones. If you do not like to dress up
for your job, then ask God for a job that requires leisure attire.
Whatever it is you are looking for, be specific about it no matter
how dumb it may seem. What seems dumb to you may seem like a desire
of your heart to God. Keep in mind that some prayers take longer than
others. While one prayer may take only a week, another prayer could
take a couple of years before you see the answer you are looking for.
Right now (as much as you may hate it) you may not have a job that you
like, but having a job is always better than being unemployed.
