when it does happen, it takes all the strength in the world to keep going
everyday. Being a single parent involves making a lot of sacrifices. The
things you sacrifice the most is your time, money, and yourself.
It's all about taking care of your children before taking care of yourself.
For some of us that are struggling to make ends meet, that could mean not
eating so that your children can eat. You are constantly cleaning up,
cooking and washing cothing without any help (unless you have teenagers).
You wake up early to get your day started only to end your day late
preparing for the next day. It seems as if you are always tired.
Single parenting also takes a great deal of wisdom. No one wants to make
a decision between putting food on the table or putting gas in the car to
make it to work. Not to mention having to choose between paying for daycare
or paying the electric bill. How about having two different medicines
prescribed by you doctor, but you can only afford one. Those are tough
decisions to make, but they are being made by single parents everyday.
No one truly knows what each individual single parent goes through
or what challenges they face each day. Those looking on from the
outside don't seem to understand your actions or reactions. Some
of them are even very quick to judge you when they have no idea
what you go through on a daily basis. You are only one person
that has to do everything that two people were meant to do together.
Single parents aren't just mothers. Some single parents are fathers.
So, there are dead beat mothers as well as dead beat dads. Whether
you are a single parent by choice or not by choice, you have got to
keep your head up and stay strong, because you've got to know by now
that no one is going to be as strong as you will ever be for your
children but you. Tough times may seem like they last for long, but
they don't last forever. Just know that you are not alone.
