In life there will usually be at least one person that will do something
hurtful to you. Getting hurt by others is a part of life because you can't
control what other people do or say. No matter how much you may try
to manipulate and control someone, they will do what they want because
they have the power of choice just like you do.
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy
people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD
(Leviticus 19:18). What do we gain by hurting someone who hurts us?
We feel good only for a short while and nothing good comes from it.
Hurting someone else doesn't erase the hurt they caused you either.
Cheating on someone who has cheated on you doesn't make things
better. Destroying someone else's things like cars, clothing, or homes
makes situations worse. Trying to get revenge can sometimes lead to
being put in jail. We have to try our hardest to resist getting revenge
during the time when our emotions are high. Those emotions override
any logical thinking that you may have.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath
for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.
Therefore IF THINE ENEMY HUNGER, FEED HIM; IF HE THIRST,
GIVE HIM DRINK: FOR IN SO DOING THOU SHALT HEAP COALS
OF FIRE ON HIS HEAD. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil
with good (Romans 12:19-21).
The best revenge that you can get on someone is the revenge that you
let God get. God does not like evil. You better believe that He had plans
of vengeance before you even got hurt. Just because you can't see God's
revenge does not mean that it hasn't happened. We are to trust God and
Keep in mind that even if you are a witness to God's revenge, be humble,
and thank God. If you brag about God's revenge or rub it in the persons
face that hurt you, you are no better than they are. The best way to deal
with getting hurt and resisting getting revenge, is to keep a constant
relationship with God.
It is your relationship with God that will give you sustaining power. When
you surround yourself with the things of God, you start to change. You don't
react to people or situations like you used to. It is in your relationship with
God that you get everything you need to be strong when things in this
world come against you to make you weak.
