and pleasant to our ears. These days you can find music playing almost anywhere. You can find music in elevators, eating establishments, and even
Music can be used in so many different ways. There are those that believe
that music can influence us to do things that we otherwise normally wouldn't
do. Some believe that music doesn't influence us at all. Everyone has their
own personal experiences and beliefs about whether or not music can have
an influence on them.
There have been studies done on mice that showed what types of music
caused the mice to either take a longer amount of time or shorter amount
of time to get out of a maze. When was the last time you felt down, but felt
better after listening to a song that had depressing words and melody in it (Proverbs 25:20)? It makes it hard to feel better.
What about the music we listen to when we are driving? Have you ever
witnessed someone on the road next to you listening to loud music and
then notice how they drive. They will more than likely drive according to
how the music is making them feel. If certain music can capture, motivate,
move you and make you feel better, then certain music can also do the
So many artists want to say that they are not a role model for kids or that they
don't believe their music influences anyone to do certain things. The truth is whether they want to be a role model or not, they are. People see celebrities
and want to be like them. Whether they think their music has an influence on
others or not, it does. Who can listen to a song with a nice beat and catchy
words and resist the urge to move to the beat? Even if you can't dance, it
will give you an urge to move or sing.
As adults we can do what we want and say what we want, but we have to
think about our small children and teenagers that are so impressionable
when it comes to music and the music videos that they watch on television.
There are some parents that find it hard to believe that what their children
see on television and the music that their children listen to have an influence
on their actions. We can't put all the blame on music artists when we are the
ones buying the music for our children and we are the ones not putting parental
control on the things that our children watch.
A lot of us don't even know what our children listen to or watch on television because either we just want them to be happy and not upset with us or we
are just so tired from working so many hours at work that we just feel like we
don't have the strength and time. Either way, making time is better than having
to deal with really bad behavior and disrespect later on. A child will always be
able to describe, in detail, the best moments they spent with their parents. It
seems that technology causes us to have less and less conversations with
our children. Children see and absorb more than we think they do.
