things keep happening over and over again amongst family members? If a
father goes to jail, his son ends up in jail, and then the son he has ends up in
jail. A woman becomes a teenage mother, her daughter becomes a teenage
mother, and then the daughter she has becomes a teenage mother also.
It could be alcoholism, drugs, children being born out of wedlock, repeated unhealthy relationships, lying, stealing, anger issues, and diseases. The list
can go on and on. Whatever the issue is it seems to be happening from one
generation to the next. These cycles are called generational iniquity.
Generational iniquity can be passed from parent to child the same way other
traits are passed. Eddie Smith wrote a book called "Breaking The Enemy's
Grip". In this book he states "Each of us was born with facial features, hair,
eyes, and skin color resulting from our parents. Our parents can also impart
to us our personality traits, strengths and weaknesses, and even our susceptibility
to certain illnesses".
Eddie Smith also goes on to say that "In the case of generational iniquity
children and grandchildren will be born not with the guilt of their parent's sins,
but with a proclivity toward the same failures. And often their progeny
(children or descendants) knowingly or unknowingly "renew the lease" with
satan by their own similar sin extending the iniquity beyond four generations.
Abraham and Isaac is the first evidence of generational iniquity. They both
were put in situations where they told Abimelech that their wives were their
sisters. They both thought that other men were going to kill them so they could
have their wives. Not only did the father do it, but the son did it to. Abraham's
iniquity is in Genesis 20:1-18 and Isaac's iniquity is in Genesis 26:1-11.
So in no way are we to use this as an excuse to continue in any forms of
iniquity, but to simply acknowledge them so that we can better understand
how to free ourselves of these iniquities. We are all responsible for ourselves
and will be held accountable. Nobody can make you do anything. We all have
the power to make choices. Even if there is a gun pointed at your head, you still have a choice.
If you want to be free of these iniquities, it starts with you. You have to decide
you want to be free. You can't do it if someone else is wanting you to and you
don't. Once you are ready, you need to go through a deliverance service.
You can ask your pastor or find out what church offers deliverance services.
If you want to do it on your own Eddie Smith's book "Breaking The Enemy's Grip" gives you step by step instructions on how to free yourself with God's help.
